USA Pickleball Member Spotlight: Bob Gearheart of Missoula, Montana
When asked how USA Pickleball members have made an impact in the local community, Carol Buerman nominated Bob Gearheart from Missoula, Montana. This is what she had to say about how he showcases his pride for strengthening the sport:
Bob Gearheart has made a huge difference in our ability to continue participating and playing pickleball in the Missoula Community. Winters in Montana are not condusive to outdoor play as weather is generally cold and unpredictable and nets are removed from city parks in October. Many of us felt pickleball would be limited due to Covid restrictions and lack of space to safely play. Bob stepped up right away in November of 2020 and took the initiative to insure pickleball was available to members of the PEAK fitness center. He worked dilegently and continuously with Susie Turner, PEAK director to set up 6 hours a day, most everyday, for pickleball play. Three, 2 hour sessions, each for 12 to 14 players per session without allowing for duplicate play per day. Within a month, the number of players increased from around 20 to over 50.
Bob has gone far beyond insuring pickleball was available all winter in Missoula for upwards of 50+ players. He is the sole reason we get to play.
He is an example of someone who has voluntarily given 110% of his time and energy to make sure we have fun each and every time we show up. He is at the center every day for at least 4 hours running round-robins for 6-7 games per session. His demeanor is jovial, kind, organized, spirited, reliable, encouraging and committed. He connects with everyone and brings laughter and fun to our days. He is a great player himself, often recommends and teaches PB to new players, and offers advice when wanted. He plays when he can and steps in often when needed.
Bob is deserving of abundant praise for his extra efforts on our behalf.
Thank you,
Carol Buerman
