Players to Watch – Scott Moore

Widely regarded as the #1 male senior player in the world, Scott Moore continues to dominate on the pickleball court. At the 2018 Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championships, Scott walked away with four gold medals making the Texas native a 20-time gold medal winner at the sport’s premier event.

From 2015-2017, Scott won 12 straight USAPA National Championships. He is also a six-time Triple Crown winner, earning titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles at the 2015 and ‘16 USAPA Nationals, 2015-2017 Tournament of Champions and at the 2018 US Open. Quite an accomplishment for someone who first picked up a pickleball paddle just six short years ago. “I love to compete and when a friend asked me to play, I was excited to try it out and instantly I was hooked.”

While the many awards and other impressive hardware has been added to his trophy case over the years, Moore can point to one win that brings him the most joy. “The sweetest win of my life, for obvious reasons, was teaming up with my son, Daniel last year at the Bend Pacific Northwest Regional and taking gold in the 5.0: 19+ men’s doubles.”  Daniel started playing and with Dad coaching became a National Champion in just six months! In 2015, Pickleball Rocs awarded the father-son tandem as co-Pickleball Players of the Year.

An outstanding junior tennis player growing up in Fort Worth, Moore loves the social aspect of pickleball and how it continues to gain in popularity. “I think that pickleball’s explosive growth is due to a combination of factors. First and foremost, the social aspect is clearly apparent when you play. It is the most social sport most people will ever play, and people are just so friendly.  It’s also a very inexpensive sport, and courts are popping up all over the country, making it accessible to a multitude of players. Lastly, I would say because it is not just a speed and power game, but has so much finesse and strategy involved, it appeals to a wider range of people and is not just about athletic ability, speed and power like so many other racket sports tend to be.”

Moore also expresses similar sentiments of so many other players in the game who love stepping onto the courts at Indian Wells. “The Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championships is such an incredible event and the venue is certainly world-class. It will no doubt continue to reach more people across the globe further elevating the greatest sport that has ever been invented.”
