The USA Pickleball Equipment Evaluation Committee (EEC), in coordination with USA Pickleball Officiating, has determined that properly installed aftermarket weights and weight systems are considered equivalent to weighted tape and are therefore permitted on USA Pickleball–approved paddles for sanctioned play, provided all other paddle specifications remain compliant. The EEC and USA Pickleball Officiating agree that this also means that the removal of OEM installed weights does not void any approvals by USA Pickleball.

The EEC has further determined that grip-mounted aids installed on an approved paddle are permitted modifications for sanctioned play, provided they do not increase the overall length of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) paddle or otherwise alter the paddle beyond current rule allowances.
