Pickleball’s Popularity is Growing in Golden State’s Santa Clara County

PICKLEBALL!  One of America’s fastest growing sports is now open for play at the Sunnyvale Municipal Tennis Center located in the San Francisco Bay area. Four permanent outdoor pickleball courts were recently installed to accommodate the growing need for managed and well-maintained resources.

To highlight pickleball’s popularity, tennis activity in Sunnyvale has skyrocketed in the past few years and yet city officials, as well as the tennis center’s operator, Lifetime Activities felt the need to convert a highly used tennis court, to build permanent pickleball courts. The expectation is that pickleball will create a multi-dimensional opportunity to serve a changing Sunnyvale community.   “With recent improvements, and the opening of our café and lounge, we feel the Sunnyvale Tennis Center is our patron’s home away from home,” said General Manager, Michael Scadden. “Pickleball will align nicely with the entertainment atmosphere we’ve created and is the perfect activity for team-building, birthday parties, social and league play.”

Pickleball classes, drop-in clinics, socials, meetup groups and leagues will be an integral component as the activity develops.  An onsite pro shop for services and equipment is open during all operating hours (M-F 8am-10pm, Sat/Sun 8am-8pm).  Other amenities include a full-service café with featured espresso drinks, pastries, specialty toasts and sandwiches.

An online reservation system allows Sunnyvale residents to reserve pickleball courts via the Internet, by phone or in person eight days in advance (seven days for non-residents).

The Sunnyvale Municipal Tennis Center is located at 755 S. Mathilda Ave.  For additional details, please visit lifetimeactivities.com, or contact us at 408-735-7285.
