Diplomas Are Handed Out at USAPA University

Each of the attendees, some who traveled from as far away as California and Massachusetts received eight hours of instruction from top flight players like Robert Elliott, Scott Tingley, Catherine Parenteau, Brian Staub, Tyson McGuffin and Will Wilson. McGuffin recently won the gold medal in men’s open singles at the USAPA National Championships in Casa Grande, Arizona in early November defeating Ben Johns in straight games, 11-7, 12-10. “As a recent Pickleball University graduate, I would like to remind my fellow classmates, the instructors and administration that when I played against him, I got Tyson McGuffin in the chin,” said Sue Carnevale of Boston.

From learning the fine art of dinking to working on their ground strokes, net play, serving, volleys and overall court management, University students were also treated to various amenities at the all-inclusive sports venue that features numerous entertaining activities of golf, tennis, beach volleyball, sailing and kayaking, among many others. Located two hours north of Miami, Club Med at Sandpiper Bay provided the perfect atmosphere for the USAPA’s inaugural class. With an 8:1 player to instructor ratio, all the students were able to receive plenty of individual attention and utilize helpful instruction on the courts. “The one-on-one individual attention provided immediate feedback,” said Cathy Broussard of Virginia Beach while Marjorie Berger of Winchester, Massachusetts chimed in, “perfect practice with precision with the pros.”

The professionals will be back and so will the USAPA Pickleball University. A class schedule will be posted on the USAPA website – www.usapickleball.org when dates and a location has been determined. Until then, keep learning and putting your newfound knowledge to good use.
